Barnstone Art for Kids - Steel City Gallery Wall
The gallery wall at Steel City Coffeehouse & Brewery will be featuring work from Barnstone Art for Kids for the months of March and April. The show on display uses elements of art making and includes metaphoric lessons of encouragement, self confidence and resilience. Our volunteer Mentors and Barnstone Art For Kids staff guide children and adolescents along a path of artistic expression, self discovery and healing.
Opening reception for the show is on Sunday, March 6, 2022 from 2-4pm at Steel City. Grab a coffee, check out the show, and meet the Barnstone Art for Kids staff! (Parking is free on Sundays!)

"The Faces of Barnstone Art For Kids"
Our Emerging Voices Teen group created self portraits by using the grid method inspired by artist, Chuck Close. By breaking down their portraits into a grid, teens were able to experience working on their pieces a little at a time, eventually completing the final portrait. Through their creations, kids were able to learn to deal with life's "pieces" a little at a time to enable them to pull everything together to a resolution.
"Art teaches us to be open to creative possibilities"
Our Power of Art kids took a trip on a jungle safari where they learned how animals live and work together in the jungle. Kids then created animal masks realizing there are many ways to accomplish their final mask creations. Art much like life, showed kids to be open to others ideas and work together because many positive creative outcomes could be the result.
Who is Barnstone Art for Kids
Located in Phoenixville, Barnstone Art for Kids uses the power of art and community connection to foster resiliency in children facing adversity. Our work seeks to directly address and mitigate the devastating impacts of childhood trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). Our trauma-informed programs pair young artists with volunteer adult Mentors, and provides a year-long art curriculum designed to guide the youth along a path of artistic expression, self-discovery and healing. Celebrating our 10th year as a 501c3 non-profit, we work to help children heal, cope and grow while educating our community about children’s mental health and trauma.
